Half-term fun in Devon

Try a luxury Devon lodge holiday with a hot tub

Why not have some half-term fun in Devon and book a luxury lodge with a hot tub at Roadford Lake? February half-term represents an important break in what can feel like a very long school term! Choose a luxury lodge in Devon at Roadford Lake the perfect half-term base for exploring Devon and Dartmoor – some of the most beautiful parts of our country.

Roadford Lake Lodges is a super-comfortable base for discovering parts of Devon and Dartmoor and is also only a short drive to many of the amazing beaches that North Devon and Cornwall offers. There’s so much to do from the doorstep that we thought it worth listing some of the many places we’d recommend visiting in order to make the most of a February half-term stay.

Roadford Lake play park

Roadford Lake

Of course, firstly there is the spectacular Roadford Lake, right on your very doorstep. The lake is one of the biggest inland waterways in Devon surrounded by unspoiled woodland walkways. Perfect for exploring with children of all ages. Download a free Activity Sheet and bring it with you to start your lakeside adventures.

Roadford Café

The wonderful Roadford Lake café and Venue is also just two minutes’ walk from the lodges, which serves customers from breakfast til late afternoon – a comfortable, relaxed space with delicious food, treats and drinks all ultra-convenient and very welcome! They also offer all lodge guests a 10% off food if you show them your discount code!

Children’s play area

Next to the Roadford café is the inclusive play area featuring a timber play tower, rope bridge, swings and slides, incorporating an orchard planted in 2015 as an area for shade and picnics and den building. Grass areas have been sown with a native wildflower and grass mix and native trees have been planted to increase the biodiversity of the play space.

Water sports at Roadford Lake Activity Centre

The lake’s Activity centre offers rental (or launch) of kayaks, paddleboards, sailing boats and more – a wonderful chance to have some fun on the water. The Activity Centre is open on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays during February. They also offer a discount to all guests staying at our lodges, contact us for details.

Keep fit at Roadford lake

Not only are there miles of paths around Roadford Lake but our lodge park has its very own well-equipped gym for those wanting to keep up their fitness or training whilst on holiday. The gym is open daily from 8 am – 7 pm free to all guests.

Lots of dog walks

We appreciate that many families include a precious dog or two and won’t want to leave them behind our luxury Devon lodges are pet-friendly. The park has its very own dog wash so muddly or sandy paws can have a rinse or a good wash. There are countless walks and cycling paths around the lake as well as a dedicated fence area where dogs can be exercised off the lead, so no reason to leave your four-legged friend behind on your half-term break in Devon!

Then there’s Dartmoor National Park!  Just 10 minutes’ drive to North West Dartmoor you’ve easy access to some of the most beautiful walks we know – and it’s absolutely free.

Nearby walks, among many, include the spectacular 4.5-mile circuit taking in Meldon Reservoir and its impressive Viaduct a wrought iron railway bridge built in 1874 36m above the river. Or stunning Widgery Cross accessed from the moor car park just up the lane from the highly recommended Dartmoor Inn at Lydford. Or clamber up to the iconic 12th Century St Michael’s Church on top of its dramatic Brentor – a short but steep walk and an inspiring spot to reach with spectacular views.

There are countless other wonderful walks on our walking and cycling page. We’ve some good walking books in the lodges for people to plan a great day on the moor that would suit you and your group.  If you’re wanting a bit of support to adventure out you can always book a guided walk with one of the fabulous and knowledgeable local guides such as ‘Dartmoor’s Daughter’.
