Anniversary memories of our Devon wedding

Last month, nearly two decades ago, my husband and I got married at the beautiful and ancient church of St Mary’s, Sampford Spiney, on the unspoilt slopes of Western Dartmoor just outside Tavistock. My family had close ties to the area and the church through the years and it meant a great deal to us to be married there. It is a place of great peace and tranquillity and where my much-loved grandparents, uncle, brother and now mother are buried. After much searching and deliberation over wedding reception venues, we eventually chose to hold our celebration at the magnificent Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel, Lifton. It was just a short drive away for guests and offered us a truly beautiful Dartmoor setting and a really special venue for our celebration. I can honestly say it was one of the happiest days of my life and the team at Lewtrenchard looked after our party so very well we will never forget it.

Many years have passed and Lewtrenchard Manor has obviously evolved and changed but it is still a thriving hotel and without a doubt a genuinely stunning wedding reception venue. It also now holds a Civil Ceremony licence which means that the whole day can be held in one place. It is definitely worth a visit for a lunch, a cream tea or somewhere very special to consider if you are getting married in Devon.

Wedding guest accommodation at Roadford Lake

All those years ago, a number of us stayed in the beautiful hotel and many of our guests were accommodated at a wide range of welcoming B&Bs around the Tavistock area that did us proud. Being only 8 miles or about 16 minutes from Roadford Lake, if the lake lodges had been in existence, then I can imagine many of our family and friends would have chosen to enjoy the privacy, luxury and comfort of a Roadford Lake Lodges to come back to, not to mention the relaxing hot tubs!

A very different option to Lewtrenchard Manor but perfect for many considering a wedding reception in Devon, with guest accommodation just behind Roadford Lake Café and Venue to welcome your entire wedding party who could then make a weekend of it.
