There are so many places to eat around Roadford Lake Lodges, whether exploring or relaxing it’s important to experience and treat yourself to the wonderful local food and drink in this part of Devon. You are spoilt for choice with so many awesome places to put your feet up, admire amazing views and enjoy great food and drink! If you are looking for a café or cream tea (why not!) there are some lovely choices nearby to your Roadford Lodge.

Roadford Lake Café

Roadford Lake Café is only a 5-minute walk from our lodges; this licensed café overlooking the lake offers great local produce for lunches, snacks, coffee and teas.

Strawberry Fields Farm Shop

Only an 8-minute drive from our lodges is Strawberry Fields Farm Shop with a restaurant and coffee shop,  indulge yourself in their excellent produce and tuck into a cream tea!

Coombeshead Farm Shop and Café

Another farm shop with a lovely café and cream teas is the Coombeshead Farm Shop and Café at Lewannick, just a 20-minute drive away.

The Pump and Pedal

For cyclists the café at the Pump and Pedal in Sourton is only a 13-minute drive away and in a great position for popping into when cycling or walking on the west side of the moors; you can browse in their cycle shop as well!

We also have some great pubs close to our lodges, so if you want good pub food and drink nearby try one of these.

Clovelly Inn

Closest to Roadford Lake Lodges is the Clovelly Inn in Bratton Clovelly, only a 7-minute drive away – a great local pub with good pub food and drink. It’s worth booking a table in the Summer, there is some outside seating. If bringing your dog there are one or two tables inside where your dog can join, so it’s worth mentioning when booking. Park in the free village car park above and walk down as parking is limited next to the pub.

Bearslake Inn

Nearby on the west side of Dartmoor are the Bearslake Inn in Sourton (a 15-minute drive), note they are open Wednesday – Sunday for lunch and dinner and are dog-friendly. It’s worth booking ahead and they offer a 10% discount, look out for the cards in our lodges!

The Dartmoor Inn at Lydford (an 18-minute drive) is open Wednesday – to Sunday for lunch and dinner.

The Castle Inn

The Castle Inn and Lydford is a great little pub close to the National Trust site of Lydford Gorge, worth booking as it does get busy (a 20-minute drive).

The Cornish Arms is set in the heart of Tavistock, no 14 in the top 50 gastropub awards for 2022 and a favourite of ours. (A 24-minute drive). Worth booking if you are visiting Tavistock market.

Enjoy a special meal in their fine dining restaurant which serves both lunch and dinner as well as afternoon tea and Sunday lunch. (A 9-minute drive). They also have a list of local taxis who will pick you up from Roadford if you prefer not to drive.

An attractive small, privately owned country house hotel offering good quality bar food. People eat in either the bar or restaurant – it’s all the same menu which changes depending upon what’s available and loosely follows the seasons. (A 9-minute drive).

Lewtrenchard Manor Hotel

Dinner is served in a beautiful wood-panelled dining room. The feel is hushed, formal and traditional, many of the vegetables come from the hotel’s walled garden. (An 11-minute drive).

The Springer Spaniel

The Springer Spaniel, which dates back to the 18th century, is set in beautiful countryside in the pretty hamlet of Treburley. Alongside a gastro pub menu are some simple pub classics. (A 19-minute drive).

Coombeshead Farm restaurant is only open on Thursday to Saturday nights with a set menu on a strict reservation-only basis as well as Sunday lunches. Dinner is served promptly at 7 pm. (A 20-minute drive).

An award-winning 3AA rosette fine dining restaurant near Tavistock with beautiful views over the Tamar Valley. They are also open for lunch and afternoon tea on certain days of the week. (A 22-minute drive).

The former Duke of Bedford’s Hunting and fishing lodge, the Hotel Endsleigh, now owned by Olga Polizzi is the place for a really special meal. Open for both a smart lunch or a stunning dinner, the hotel boasts the most beautiful grounds. (A 20-minute drive).

Overlooking the beach at Widemouth Bay it has great views of Widemouth Bay, a popular surfing location where you can sit inside the newly refurbished cafe. (A 39-minute drive).

If you are visiting the RHS Garden Rosemoor near Torrington in north Devon, which is only a 45-minute drive from Roadford Lake Lodges, they have a wonderful range of eating choices including the Garden Kitchen and Otter Café for heavenly drinks, snacks and lunches.

Rocket Store

For something a bit more special in this area try the Rocket Store, a wonderful seafood restaurant in the pretty fishing harbour village of Boscastle; here they serve dishes using fresh seafood from their own boat and meat from their farm – truly local produce! (A 34-minute drive)

Fresh off the boat, straight from the farm, foraged that morning. Enjoy seasonal, star-quality food inspired by the bounty on their doorstep. Relax in the traditional old bar with slate floors, wooden beams and a wide range of proper ales. (A 46-minute drive)

Nathan Outlaw is a quality dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere, a Michelin-starred chef based in Cornwall. The Sea and Fishermen dictate the menu, amazing but not cheap! (A 47-minute drive).

If you don’t feel like eating out, you can stay in the comfort of our lodges – you can eat inside or, if it’s sunny, dine ‘al fresco’ outside on the patio! Put drinks in the wine cooler, get cooking in the kitchen or fire up the BBQ!

Strawberry Fields is glorious, with every sort of fresh food and produce you can think of: they have a bakery, butchers, a dairy and fresh fruit and vegetables. Try their home-baked pies or their delicious ready meals! You can see bees making honey and spoil yourself with their lovely jams and preserves. If the choice is too much you can sample the food in their café whilst you decide! Go on treat yourself!
